Who we support

Parallel Independence provides supported accommodation and independence training for looked-after young people and care leavers aged 16 and 17. Unfortunately, we do not accept referrals for anyone under 16.

What kind of support

We provide support rather than personal care. Support is practical and structured, focused on routines, safety, wellbeing, education engagement, and building the skills needed for independent living.

Our supported accommodation standards

A service built around safety, quality, and consistency.

Our provision aligns with the standards that sit behind regulated supported accommodation, covering leadership and management, safeguarding, accommodation quality, and tailored support. This kind of structure helps ensure placement expectations are clear and practice is consistent across our homes.

Leadership & management

Clear expectations and consistent practice across all homes.

Safeguarding

Actively maintained systems and safer recruitment throughout.

Accommodation quality

Well-maintained, comfortable homes that support stability.

Tailored support

Plans built around each young person's needs and goals.

Safety and security

Safe homes, clear boundaries, and strong safeguarding practice.

Young people live in stable homes with 24-hour staffing and safeguarding systems that are actively maintained. Risk assessments are robust and responsive, information is shared appropriately with partner agencies, and concerns are escalated without delay. Safer recruitment and ongoing staff training support a consistent safeguarding culture.

Young people’s voice

Decisions are made with young people, not for them.

Support plans are co-produced and reviewed regularly. Young people have opportunities to influence day-to-day living through key work sessions, house meetings, and placement reviews. Complaints processes are accessible, and young people can access advocacy support.

Skilled and understanding staff

Consistency, training, and supervision shape everyday practice.

Staff are recruited through values-led and safer recruitment processes, including checks and vetting. Induction, ongoing training, and supervision support high-quality practice. Staff teams work closely together and communicate with professionals to keep the wider support network aligned.

A place to call home

Comfortable, well-maintained accommodation that supports stability.

Each young person has a private, furnished, lockable bedroom and access to comfortable shared spaces. Homes include fully equipped kitchens and washing facilities. Maintenance checks and clear house routines support a stable environment where young people can focus on progress.

Health and well-being support

Practical help to access services and maintain routines.

Support includes registering with local services, attending appointments, building healthy routines, and accessing specialist services when needed. Practice recognises the impact of trauma and transition and prioritises calm, predictable support.

Preparing for independence

A structured programme with skills that translate to adult life.

Independence training programmes are tailored to each young person. This commonly includes budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning, timekeeping, managing appointments, education and employment support, and tenancy readiness. Support reduces gradually as the young person gains confidence and competence.

Positive futures and move on support

Planning and progress tracking that supports stability after placement.

We support young people to work towards education, training, employment, and suitable move-on accommodation. We work closely with placing authorities on transition planning and can support step-down and floating support arrangements when agreed within the plan.
